Unrest in Odessa
I travelled to Odessa with a good feeling. Just yesterday, my impression was that the city has shown its pro-Ukrainian position and avoided the threat of provocation by separatists. However, today during the day, the atmosphere is becoming more tense. Approx. 40 people, mostly so-called „Putin tourists“ and „local separatists“, died in the building of Trade Unions. Thousands of people who believe that it was Kiev/Right Sector/Fascists who had planned and proceeded to burn pro-Russian activists alive, gathered today on Kulikovo Field. In conversations with people I've heard increasingly improbable versions, according to which, not only was the building set on fire, but those fleeing the building were being shot at (or they were being shot at whilst inside the burning building, which is allegedly confirmed by the location of the bodies). For the crowd gathered in front of the Trade Unions building, what happened on Friday was mass murder. The word 'Assassins' was also shouted in the direction of the policemen, who are accused of inaction in accordance with the command from Kiev. In my presence, an activist who shouted 'Glory to Ukraine!' was severely beaten, another one was threatened with a knife. One of the journalists was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound half an hour ago.
People began to gather near the police building, demanding that the separatists who were arrested yesterday, be released. The separatists have now finally been released.
