The situation on the EuroMaidan. The situation as of 5:30 p.m.
Until 5:00 p.m., there was a ceasefire on the Maidan, following the agreement of both parties. There Maidan was silent. People rested, talked and ate.
There is plenty of food, brought by Kiev residents. Crowds of people came to the protest. Paving blockstaken from the square and from Khreschatyk street are being collected both by well-dressed women, traditional ‘babushkas’ and young students.
There was absolute peace. At approx. 5:10 p.m., the Ukrainian national anthem was sung and gratitude was expressed for adherence to the ceasefire. Demonstrators arekindling low flames on the barricades, and are rarely throwing stones and Molotov cocktails.
The militia have formed a defensive line; they are not advancing. They are operating a water cannon from Institutska Street. The situation is stable and peaceful. People are focused, determined, and, despite the despair they suffered in the morning– they are again, full of faith and hope.
