The situation in Kharkiv
Two days ago our team was in Kharkiv and seen rather calm city yet with divided communities. Members of EuroMaidan residing in the local voivodship hall guarded by militia and Samoobrona (Self Defence Squad of EuroMaidan) coexisted with clerks who pretended to do their job and tried to believe that nothing changed since 18th February.
On the opposite side of the Freedom Square AntiMaidan activists tried to defend the statue of Lenin. Lenin for them is a symbol of the stability, guaranteed retirement and salary, and status quo in which they have been used for several previous decades.
They decided to play a basketball game with the EuroMaidan activists. The team of EuroMaidan lost the game.
On the next day at 4:30 p.m. Kiev time the building was taken over by an organized raid of paramilitary group of activists who had put the Russian flag on top of the building, shot at people and beaten badly a lot of them. Person who informed us about the events narrowly escaped.
Symoultanously same events occured at Donetsk and Nikolayevo. City councils in Dnepropetrovsk and Cherson were attacked too but so far defended by Samoobrona. We met one of the Samoobrona soldiers at Maidan Square in Kiev who said:
- It must have been organized. How come on one day they play basketball and on another day there is a bloody attack.
