The Act for United Ukraine organised by the Civil Activists of Donetsk
The Act for United Ukraine. Laughing children, the song “May There Always Be Sunshine” (a popular Soviet song calling for peace), blue and yellow flags and balloons. This is the event for people who appreciate their country, do not want to join any foreign power and see Ukraine as a strong independent state.
Children’s competitions are underway. The children are asked, “What is Ukraine?”, given chalk, and asphalt becomes covered with children’s drawings devoted to peace and Ukraine. The event was organised by the civil activist of Donetsk who staged meetings supporting Ukrainian unity.
After the tragedy of March, 13 (a young man was killed at an event like this) it is hard to hold such events. The people are being bullied. The event is conducted in such a positive format, as an alternative to the rally in Lenin square. They are just people, not a political party. However, today it is not the day to be a couch potato. About 50 people – parents and children – gathered in the park near the St. Barbara Chapel. It is a working day, and the parents collect their children from kindergartens.
