Self-Defense in their new base in Kyiv
I’ve been trying to find more and more places, where the given sotnyas moved to from the Maydan. I Managed to find five today: the second, third, twenty-eighth, thirty-first and thirty-eighth. They managed to obtain permission from the municipal authorities to take over the old Pechersk citadel. The idea was supported in the first place by historians, who had for a long time stood in stern defense of this monument of architecture from subsequent attempts to have it demolished (the municipal officials were under pressure from the local businesses, who wanted to have another office building erected on the site). Thanks to the Self-Defense being relocated to the citadel, the plans were thwarted.
The new seat immediately became the centre of dynamic activity by the newly-joined sotnyas. It is now a rallying point for the volunteers bound eastwards, a place to rest for those who can’t – or won’t – return home during their leave, as well as a place to gather and send products for the Ukrainian soldiers at the front.
At the same time, the lads are cleaning and tidying up the derelict buildings and preparing for the winter – they are sure the war will not end by then, and their presence in Kyiv still needed.
