Russian separatists take control over cities in the Donetsk Oblast
Russian separatists have taken control of the buildings of the City Council, police and SBU (the Security Service of Ukraine).
A unit of Maidan Self-Defence operates in Kramatorsk. Members of the unit have gone underground and are currently collecting information. We talk to their commander: “The City Council building was taken over by people carrying merely batons. Those who took over the police station were armed and wearing camouflaged uniforms. They arrived in two buses and got off near the facility. As the attack was expected, people had gathered in front of the building to act as human shields. The assailants waited until some of them had gone home. Around 9 pm, they ran up to the windows of the building and fired a few shots in the air. One of the policemen opened fire with an automatic firearm and injured one of the assailants. Then the chief constable of the local police force ordered his subordinates not to resist.
The armed policemen returned to their homes. The assailants seized ten pistols stored in the guardroom.
The facilities remain under the separatists’ control”.
