Peaceful March in Donetsk Targeted by Separatists
A peaceful march of pro-Ukrainian separatists took place today in Donetsk. The march was to be protected by soldiers of the Volunteers' Battalion of the Territorial Defense of Donetsk region “Donbas”, based on troops of the Donetsk Self-Defence. Their entry into the city was blocked, however, by the ‘traffic militsiya’ as they did not have a permit from the local authorities.
The peaceful march, joined by about 1000 people, was therefore “protected” by Donetsk ‘militsiya’ men. The scenario of earlier incidents in Kharkiv was repeated – when the march was about to reach its end, separatists equipped with clubs emerged from side streets, and started to strike (mainly about their heads) persons bearing Ukrainian symbols.
The ‘militsiya’ did not react because they “had not got the order to do so”. Fortunately, no one was killed but there were dozens wounded. About ten people with serious head wounds were taken to hospitals.
