Manifestation of support for the volunteer battalions
On Ukrainian Independence Day, the Presidential Administration building witnessed a gathering of activists, soldiers, volunteers and citizens of Kyiv, who want to draw the government’s attention to the serious issues in the zone of the anti-terrorist operation.
The picket participants were waving banners reading “ATO begins in Kyiv”, “Weapons for the patriots” or “Shower the enemy with candy”. The issue of lack of proper weapons relates mostly to volunteer battalion soldiers, often fighting without the official status, which makes it difficult for them to gain access to proper equipment – not to mention insurance or social security, and their families receive no compensation were they to lose their lives.
The main demands of today’s action organisers are:
- sufficient arms for the volunteer battalions,
- assigning rotation dates and providing the soldiers with the right to leave
- legalisation of the ATO soldiers
- providing social support to members of volunteer battalions
Ihor Lucenko, an activist of the Maydan Civil Sector handed over the letter detailing the above listed requests to the representative of the administration.
