"Get vetted or gelded" – Ukrainian parliament takes a decision
Today, the Supreme Council accepted the Vetting Act bill in its first reading. Over the last few months, that was one of the main demands Maydan directed at the new authorities, which has now been fulfilled. Since the very morning, the Council was picketed not only by Kyiv residents, but also civil and political activists from many Ukrainian cities – this time with a positive result.
There were no incidents this time; however, the Kyiv-1 volunteer battalion ordered to protect the Council buildings was viewed with a certain suspicion by the protesters. After the battalion took part in the “Maydan cleaning”, the Kyiv activists came to see its troops as betraying the cause for which they fought together. Today, Kyiv-1 stood hand in hand with the police in opposition to the protesters.
