East and West Together
The delegation of the Open Dialog Foundation has placed a floral wreath at the place where the "Heavenly Sotnia" fought. We talk to a man who fought in the "Parovoz" unit from which 2 out of 10 persons were killed.
A man about 55 years old feels guilty: - Why didn’t they kill me, an old man? Why did young boys die instead?
People lay flowers, burning cigarettes and plastic cups containing vodka at the place where the Maidan defenders died. The man invites us into a tent. We become acquainted with his friends. They fear that, although the revolution in Kiev has succeeded, they might still be deceived in the end. The revolution was a spontaneous bottom-up movement, It had no appointed leaders. Now, when bullets have ceased flying, politicians have crawled out of their holes. They are standing on the Big Stage, taking credit for other people's work. The Maidan defenders suppose that the leaders, who will „turn up“ after the victory, will sell Ukraine to the oligarchs again. It has happened before...
They are afraid that Ukraine might be divided into two parts – the West, including Kiev, where the revolution ended up in success, and the East, where the oligarchs retain influence. A banner has been hung over the street: EAST AND WEST TOGETHER!
